10 Safety Improvement Areas in 10 countries

Safety Improvement Areas (SIAs) are specific urban or peri-urban zones identified by partner cities as hotspots for mobility-related risks, safety concerns, or exposure to pollution.

They are often places where vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, children, cyclists, older adults, or people with disabilities, experience discomfort or danger in their daily mobility.

AMIGOS deploys targeted interventions in these areas, combining behavioural insights, stakeholder engagement, Mobility Observation Box (MOB) analyses, and adapted infrastructure planning.

The aim is to improve both objective safety (reducing accidents and conflicts) and perceived safety, making these areas more accessible, healthier, and more welcoming.

What Safety Improvement Areas Do

    • Identify high-risk mobility zones
    • Collect detailed behavioural and safety data through AI-based analysis
    • Implement urban design, traffic regulation and space reallocation measures
    • Reduce air and noise pollution in critical zones
    • Improve accessibility and comfort for vulnerable road users
