The City of Reykjavík is the northernmost capital in the world with ca. 144,000 inhabitants. It is a member of the EU Carbon-neutral and smart cities mission. Key mobility development programmes include 15-minute neighbourhoods, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line, multi-modal transport and mobility hubs, a redesign of town squares (in poor use) for multi-purpose uses and community feel, and the extension of pedestrian zones. Tourism is very prominent in the city centre, with high density of bars/cafés/restaurants, galleries, museums, design centres, theatres and music halls, ground floor shopping and pedestrian zones. Reykjavik is an EU Mission City.
